I realize that drinking can become a habit, but note that the doctor didn't ask if he had a habit of drinking. The doctor asked if he was a "heavy drinker". Even if he drank a glass of wine with dinner every day of his life he wouldn't be classified as a "heavy drinker".
some doctors do exactly that. They categorize you by number of drinks per week, rather than per day, with one or two per week being their ideal.
I truly miss my old GP who retired 20 years ago at the age of 89 and has since passed away. I used to get these persistent coughs that coworkers would claim were pneumonia or bronchitis, so I would have to go see him to get a doctor's note to go back to work. After confirming it was indeed just a cold, his advice was always the same. Find a comfortable chair tonight, open a good book, and sip two fingers of cognac to soothe your throat.
What a great doctor. I miss him.
