One can go to jail for up to a year for a misdemeanor. When that happens, you don't keep your kids except in a few pilot programs in just a couple of states. You appear to be arguing that this does not, in fact, happen. Which is wrong. So my original argument stands.
One can lose their kids for neglect or endangerment. In fact, if an American citizen tried to cross a desert with their minors, they likely would lose their kids. Getting them involved with criminals like smugglers and traffickers could (and often does!) also have that result.
I was technically wrong about some terminology. Your argument itself is wrong.
False. I argue that it happens all the time, and that it is suddenly the worst thing ever because it scores political point and that we are seeing a bunch of phony outrage by hypocrites who couldn't be bothered to complain about this issue when we had a different administration. I argue elsewhere in this thread (you must have missed it) that we should begin removing many women from prison/jail so that their children can be restored to them.
