I said one side is the totalitarian guys, and if the West, with all its serious but correctable flaws, goes down, totalitarianism will sweep over the globe, with the sole remaining "choice" being flavor—and that choice will not be dictated by anyone in this country.

In that same vein, with regard to US politics exclusively, a decade ago wads was calling me a sexist for stating the many reasons Hillary had no business in the White House and a racist for daring assert I understood our countrys politics better after thirty years as a political junkie than someone a decade younger on the other side of the globe. My favorite part was the idea Americans and/or Australians constitute some kind of distinct "race" rather than being the ultimate mutts, but anyway: The point is I never denied Hillary was merely the marginally lesser evil (economically, both the politician pushing outsourcing treaties and the robber baron making money off them were always going to screw the rest of us) but pretending the minor distinction was non-existent (much less went the other way) is how we wound up with Trump aiding and abetting Nazis both at home and abroad.

Eighty years some people who sat on the sidelines because FDR temporarily imprisoning Japanese-Americans and seizing their property was somehow the same as Hitler shoving Jews, Gypsies, gays, disabled people, communists and all dissenters into ovens and gas chambers while blitzing across Europe in pursuit of more conquests and victims. False equivalency is not our friend.
