I mean, there's some good scenes, and I liked the new actress. Not unimportantly, it provides at least the potential for a somewhat more original/interesting conclusion to the trilogy. But overall I found the story really weak.
First of all, I am not in the 'it was amazing' camp. It wasn't. I am not even sure it was a good film. It just felt off. Maybe because the enemy is not as well constructed as in the original trilogy. Maybe because the movie seemed like it wanted to be a springboard for a continuation of the Star Wars universe more than it wanted to tell a good story. Thus the constant references to history and to letting the past die. Or maybe because Rey is just not that likable.
Maybe I will see it in a better light once IX comes out. The middle of a trilogy is usually the weakest of a trilogy. We shall see.
