I don't have to misuse the word "gender" and it provides a bit of variety for the terminology.
I am recalling this 35 second scene from Boston Legal see here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zluIU7iAzr0
And I am imagining Tom as the Blond Guy (his fictional name in the tv show is Brad Chase) and every time he tries to avoid the word Gender, I am just merely reinserting it.
Much like the Red Head (Alan Shore) is reinserting the word Lesbian while Blond Guy (Brad Chase) is trying to avoid that word Lesbian, for it makes him uncomfortable.
-------
Now I understand why Tom avoids the word Gender for it is a modern change and he likes the old version(s) of the word, but the new version(s) of the word are now legitimate definitions. This is what language does, it changes over time.
And yeah it can be a pain in the ass when the new definitions subvert the old definitions, but that is a fact of life.
-------
Sorry Tom, I just had to share, I am not trying to mock you and understand I respect you but I do not think you are going to win this last battle like you were on some quixotic quest. You are just 1 english speaker out of ...what is the current estimates on numbers...last I heard it is roughly 1/3rd of a billion for 1st language / native speakers but how many non native speakers we have now? I seen different estimates 1 billion total, 1.5 billion, only 500 million? I think you know more about this subject than I do.
But whatever if tilting at windmills makes Tom happy then lets all celebrate for the success or failure of the act is not the only thing to care about, the enjoyment of the act also matters even if you do not succeed in your goal. Rejoice!
