Can you honestly explain why this is different than demanding litter boxes in bathrooms for people who self-identify as cats? Will women who try to conceal their age legitimately be able to get driver's licenses changed if they self-identify as being younger? What exactly are you hanging your hat on here?

I think the most compelling argument in favor of there being a biological basis for transsexualism is the various imaging studies that have been done on the brains of trans people. Male and female brains tend to differ structurally from each other, and trans people generally have brains which have stereotypical elements of both male and female brains, in a way that differs from the general population. These structural differences exist pre-transition.

There have also been studies showing that trans people generally have hypothalamic reactions to certain sex-specific pheromones in the manner of their identified gender.
