You basically beat me to it.

I'm one of the most left-leaning and progressive-esque people on this site these days. I'm pretty much the typical SJW bogeyman. But more and more I feel like the fringe of the progressive movement (it's largely not the left, incidentally; these people don't give a shit about labor) is becoming a caricature of itself.

I spent the last two weeks arguing with multiple people on Facebook that using violence as a political tool could only end badly for the progressive cause.

For all of the screeching about "not needing allies" that these people do, they're going to find themselves really lonely at the barricades if they keep this up.


The Soviet Communists did this to themselves too in the 20s and 30s once they had defeated the "Whites". All in the name of ideological purity. It will only get worse. Denouncements. Political violence. Ostracism. Death. It will be interesting to see how this progresses. The stuff I read about college campuses is chilling. The lack of respect for free speech is especially quite troubling. Having read so much European history, I know where this can go and I do wonder if the extreme ideological militants have read their history too. Or even care if they have.
