With four episodes now having aired, my reaction so far is "meh." Particularly after episode 4 which was all backstory for Laura Moon that wasn't in the book at all but was invented for TV. Deviations from the book tend to irritate me in general. More so the better I liked the book(s). This backstory, while well done, departed so much from the novel's narrative that it makes me wonder how they will reconcile differences that are important later in the story.

It also seems that the critics like this adaptation a lot more than I do, which is relatively meaningless unless I have lousy taste. So it made me wonder, is anyone else here watching? Are you impressed or as underwhelmed as me? I bought the Starz package from my cable provider to watch this show. Right now I'm questioning the decision.
I think the vignettes depicting some of the Gods are good - especially liked last week's involving Anubis. But so far the pace seems off. Everyone else is raving about this show but after the first episode I was meh. I am still watching since its only 8 episodes but I don't know if I will continue honestly. Episode 4 is still sitting on my computer days later. Unwatched.
Is anyone else watching American Gods?

I think it's the best show on television, with WESTWORLD second and GoT possibly a distant third.
