if you choose to just lurk and not participate then don't be surprised if you don't get the enjoyment out of it that you thought you would. also, if no new people come to a community, how is a community expected to grow? "it takes a village" and all that jazz. might as well just say "this car is not like my last car so i'll just walk everywhere from now on"

well said.
Hrm. Perhaps...

Or sometimes, it's not. It's not just about me and what I post, it's also about other people and what they don't post... like replies.

There are more people here interested in politics than I am. More people who *want* to talk about current events in favor of the goofiness that I enjoyed.

Who said anything about not liking new people?

Also, I don't lurk, I post.

And I don;t think it's anything like saying, "I'll walk from now on."

It's more like, "I am not enjoying this gas guzzler that is not reflecting my values or giving me the economy I desire. I think I'll take it back in favor of some other mode of transportation such as a hybrid or a bike."

I agree that you have to put something out there but if the something you're putting out isn't of interest to anyone here, why stick around to let it make you feel lonely?

oh well glo don't you know?
it's never "Them" it's ALWAYS "You"
actually i was not talking about glo's post but the others after it
no offense to globug, i know you participate quite often even if i don't respond directly to your posts :) i usually glance at every topic on the CMB so i have some idea of who participates, i'm just tired of seeing people who barely post anything at all on the CMB show up and keep saying how they're leaving or that they're done with the site.

also, i never said anything about "not liking new people". my point is that by bringing more people to this site, it will grow into something more than what it is now. right now it's a pretty small group compared to the old site, and made up almost exclusively of people who came from the old site. we need new people in here to change things up a little, and in theory the site will become a much more enjoyable place to participate :)
that's not what i meant. i actually was agreeing with glo, but makng a different choice.
i never did post at wotmania. i never have liked to post, actually. i was a chat person originally, but there is no chat here (and that went downhill at wot, anyway). for the most part, people already posted what i would have posted anyway. i loved replying, though. i don't like replying to the cmb here and i'm tired of the right wing jackasses that post politics bullshit. i will participate happily on the sci fi/fantasy board and then entertainment board, they seem like groups that i'll get along with. i had hoped for more in the cmb here... yeah, i understand what you're saying, and you're not wrong about that. i'm just not interested in the community anymore.
Werd.

Makes more sense now that you give a little more explanation.

Still, in the first post, it did sound like you were accusing "people" of not liking or accepting new-comers. Good to know that's not what you meant!

I'm wondering if name changes aren't hindering people getting involved?

Like I didn't know a lot of people's "new" names, and if they didn't have a super-interesting post title, I may not have replied but if I had known they were my old friends I might have clicked and said something, you know?

Or maybe I am the only one who does that.

As for the name change thing...
...I'd really hate for that to be a major reason for lack of responses.

Of course people are going to respond more readily to the folks they know better. But I'd hate to think there's a huge trend of "Geez, if I'd known it was that person, I'd have responded."

It's just so frustrating when you put a lot of thought into a post/response, and nobody responds. Being the insecure type, I don't blame others, I start to feel that what I have to say just isn't of value. So I tend to participate less and less.
well, i was at wot for nearly 7 years... it would've been 7 about this month, actually.
but the name change felt right, so i did it. i have figured out who people are/were and can avoid the ones that are troublesome for me. i'm just tired of stuff. actually the last three days have been better. funny how ultimatums do that.
