(This is mostly for a change on this page.)
Winter Storm Q (I think it was Q) his us pretty hard here in Wichita. I've been told that's the most snow we've gotten since 1971. I was unable to get my car out of its parking spot one day. But since my department is a 24-hour operation and I'm one of only about 8 people that can do my job well, my new boss came and got me.
I applied for another job within my company that I really wanted and I didn't get it.
I'm in the middle of a four-day weekend . . . which means I have a ten-day work week ahead of me.
I watched Bridesmaids. The movie was not funny, except for one bit. The rest was stuff junior high schoolers could make up. Like pretty much any Adam Sandler or Kevin James movie (or most comedies these days).
The funny bit:
(Scene set-up): Main character lost her job and got kicked out of her apartment and got univited to her best friend's wedding. She moved in with her mom. Morning of the wedding.
Mom says something about going to the wedding.
Daughter says something about her friend not wanting her there.
Mom decided not to argue and says: I'll make you a tuna fish sandwich.
Daughter: It's 8:30 in the morning.
Mom: You can put syrup on it.
Which reminds me. It's awards season. I've given up on them. I've gave up on the Grammys twenty years ago when Jethro Tull won for Best Heavy Metal performance. And while the Oscars could be snobbish a lot of the time, at least the Best Picture winner was always a good movie. That is, until Slumdog Millionaire. That movie was a heap of crap. At least Argo was pretty good.
On the positive front, I don't have any TV service so I can't watch Game of Thrones at my place. (Really, it's about to get positive.) However, my friend said he will give me his HBO GO credentials so I can watch it on my computer. Yay, Chad.
I'm up to 72 beers in the Old Chicago World Beer Tour. I'm currently in the middle of the St. Patrick's Day mini-tour. A lot of Irish Reds and Guinness, of course.
My truck will be paid off in June. That's gonna make my wallet very happy.
I'm contemplating getting a texting plan for my phone. I've only had a cell phone for about 2 years. I use about 5 minutes a month. Given that, when my contract expires this year, I should probably switch to a pre-paid or pay-as-you-go plan.
[WARNING: American Football Reference] Roger Goddell and, by extension, Paul Tagliabue, really piss me off.
I'm getting a new baseball simulation game in April. I really hope the in-game mode is worth it this time.
That's about it. Nothing major or dramatic, which is the way I like it.
What baseball sim do you use? I've tried a couple of them, assuming we're talking about the same thing. I find them fascinating, but I haven't had time to do everything I've wanted with them.
Which stands for Out of the Park. OOTP 14 (I think; could be 13) comes out in April. I've played two other versions, maybe 8 and 10. They are fascinating. And very thourough. I highly recommend it if simming is all you want to do.
What I really want is a game mode sim, i.e., managing games, where I make play calls like stealing bases, pitchouts, fielding positions, pitch-by-pitch. OOTP hasn't done that so far. Only one baseball game I ever saw did that and it's not made anymore. Nor does it work on my newest computer.
The main issue I've had with OOTP is there is sometimes so much happening that when it delivers the information to you, it stops the sim. It happens enough that it becomes annoying.
I'm hoping that problem is fixed, or at leat lessened and mainly, that the game mode is much improved. Still, overall it is a great sim. I recommend it.

The other one I've tried is Baseball Mogul. I don't know if it does everything that you want, but I remember it having a decent game mode where you could go pitch by pitch if you wanted to. The graphical interface was lacking, though, at least back when I played it. But if you wanted to try it, I think they have a free demo on their site. In the past, I found that BM had less statistical depth than OOTP, but a little more ease of use and flexibility because of that.
I never played it though. I found the description lacking enough, that it didn't seem worth trying. I'm very particular about this type of thing.
Neither is fit to do Rozelles laundry, and the sole good that came from either is the salary cap, but that would have been needless had not Tagliabue let the NFL reach the state of Jerry Jones and Eddie DeBartolo Jr. deciding the championship with an August bidding war. At least I know Tagliabues influence is truly gone, because San Francisco finally LOST a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, they lost to an over the hill team that stumbled through the regular season and barely managed to win an uncharacteristically weak AFC North before almost effortlessly crusing through the playoffs, leaving me to wonder if the fix is in and the championship is now decided like in the WWF, on the basis of who provides the most crowd-pleasing narrative.
Your feelings go a lot deeper than mine. You're concerned about the results of games. My beef is the way the games are played: Too many pussy rules for not hurting the quarterback, fines for certain tackles, grounding the ball rules, and especially the new tackling rule.
