In manner of speaking, yes. But only regarding game play.

Following the last few posts here:
-You started off by saying that Tyranids in Dawn of War ripped off Zerg.
I might have said that, but I was actually referring to the "bug/hive" alien race which is practically generic to sci-fi by this point. I had no idea which came first, and was really just ranting to make a point. -You started off by saying that Tyranids in Dawn of War ripped off Zerg.
-Werthead corrects you, and talks about how Tyranids predated Zerg.
-You counter by saying that even though Tyranids came first, Zerg were there first in videogames, which means that when Tyranids are put into a game, they're actually ripping off the Zerg.
I was not actually arguing about which predated the other. Werthead's correction settled it in my mind, since they had the first intellectual property. What I was defending later on was the mindset on why Tyrannids would be seen as simpy more Zerg, much as I referred to the Eldar as Space Elves. Werthead seemed to grasp my point, as he alludes in the post with the cartoon link. I was not really accusing the Warhammer folks of copying anything as much as I was complaining about the flaws in their game. It was not about originality of an aspect of a game, but about the flaws encountered in playing the game. Rather than getting to play Space Marines versus Chaos, we get stuck with something very like Starcraft - Humans vs Superior Aliens vs Bug Aliens (with Orks). Who cares who came up with the concept first? It was all about the "meh" aspects of DoW2. Regardless of the pedigree and significance of the Tyrannids in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, they put out a game after an immensely popular RTS title and while it would be a logical progression to fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, through all its various media, to GAMERS, they are nothing new as bad guys. I was making my point as a gamer, and not a Warhammer 40,000 fan. To the latter, the introduction of Tyrannids to the DoW video game franchise is a new development. To gamers, it is simply Starcraft in new colors regardless of who got theirs out in other media first. -You counter by saying that even though Tyranids came first, Zerg were there first in videogames, which means that when Tyranids are put into a game, they're actually ripping off the Zerg.
-Wert provides examples of Tyranids appeared in video games prior to Zerg.
-You counter by saying that Starcraft was more popular and iconic as a game, so those don't count.
-Your final argument, in summary: Tyranids may have come first, both in general and in video games, but because Starcraft did it in a more popular fashion, the Tyranids in Dawn of War are actually ripping off the Zerg.
No, my point is that because Starcraft jumped the gun with their ripoffs, for DoW to blunder ahead with their new game limited to four races, they are effectively giving us Starcraft+Orcs, rather than the flexibility and variety and broad scope and strategic elements that made me prefer DoW to the (by-now) worn-out & tired Starcraft.-You counter by saying that Starcraft was more popular and iconic as a game, so those don't count.

Either I'm not actually following your discussion properly, or you've got some really strange logic.
You're not, because Wert got it right.

OK. We all have our own SOPs. Just don't keep them on the QT or DL, or at least translate PDQ *NM*

It was a disappointing game. Looks great, but there isn't any depth or strategy at all.

In full agreement on the DRM. But the Tyranids predated the Zerg by quite a long time.

So wait: Are you trying to argue that because Starcraft was more popular, it became the original?
