Has anyone had a chance to play Drakensang: The river of time yet?
I picked up the English language version of the Dark eye last year and had a blast. The ruleset was different than the D&D 2nd/3rd edition that most people are familiar with it, but I instantly took a shining to it. It reminded me very much of a MMO/Mud called Dragonrealms, especially the leveling and skill system. Very much a skill based natural level progression superior to what you find mostly nowadays in WoW and the like. While the Dark eye was not without it's flaws (somewhat repetitive combat, not much party banter) it was superb example of an old school RPG.
It's the kind of game that appeals to gamers that can distinguish between an aventail and a chanfron. The only thing missing was an armored cod piece! I also loved (LOVED!) the art design of the game with it's focus on a more realistic depiction of weapons and armors than in any rpg I've ever seen. No neon colored power ranger outfits, nerf weapons, and pointless spikey shoulder pads of doom! (Well except for the final endgame quest armor) Simply put, it had the finest assortment of maces, axes, and war hammers ever seen. Someone obviously was into some hiebwaffen lovin.
Anyway enough with the fanboy ranting. My main question was if the game is playable with a basic (a couple years high school, a couple semesters college) command of German and a handy pocket dictionary? If not, does anyone know when/if an English language translation will be available?
