Yeah. I mean it works, it just seems unnecessary. There are so many plot holes in videogames that I can't imagine anyone would be upset at just getting to pick their class again, no explanation in sight. Even if they feel they have to justify it, is killing him really the best they could come up with? "He's dead! Nah just kidding. But now you can pick a new class!" Why not something as simple as, "The galaxy has been quiet for the past two years. Commander Shepherd, the hero of the first invasion, has dedicated himself to new training, determined to do anything necessary to safeguard humankind from the continuing reaper threat." With something like that, as long as you had all new skills, the assumption is that Shepherd still knows the old stuff, but his new stuff is just better.
I dunno, I'm sure they thought they had come up with some dramatically clever way to let the player choose a new class, and I'm sure some players will love it, too. It's just not my thing. Having a dead person not ACTUALLY be dead is such old hat cliche by this point that I'm sick of it.

They really want to bring some of those FPS players into the RPG fold. Very badly.

That's why they've stripped out many of its actual RPG elements, for better and/or worse. *NM*

I just read that today in the Ars Technica review. And am no longer buying the game.

I played the first one largely in FPS style because of my class.

I think the Soldier class definitely fits that. Playing Vanguard on the PC, myself.
