If you like traditional CRPGs, definitely play The Witcher. Not perfect, but definitely worthwhile.

Just make sure to get the "Enhanced Edition," or anything but the original release. It's since been further developed by CD Projekt to add a bit of polish to the game. (Ironic pun, since the devs are Polish) Improved/rewritten dialogue, new NPC animations, some fixes, added content, etc.
They probably don't even sell the original version anymore, which is good. That's what I played and enjoyed though, despite its flaws, if that tells you anything. I picked it up on Steam's Holiday sale for $13, but that's over and done with.

The sword might be grateful to the forge fire, but never fond of it.
