You can get max settings on all games at 1680x1050 res for about 5-600, including monitor.

I know because I just built a computer to do that, about a month ago. Athlon triple core black, 4 gigs of ram, radeon 4850 1gb, 22in Acer LCD monitor, etc. You can get at least 40 fps, and usually 60+, on all modern games at max settings with that. Again, we're talking 1680x1050 here.
Anyway, my computer ran me just about 600 even, but things have gone down slightly since I built mine, and if you manage to snag some of the black friday deals going on right now, you could probably go well under my price. If it were me, I would (obviously, since I did ) upgrade. A dual core athlon and 1gb of ram is not a good pc by any stretch of the imagination these days. You can't even properly run a modern operating system with that.
Upgrade away!

Yeah, that's what I'd do too. If there's a game to have a gaming PC for it's Diablo 3! *NM*

Knowing Blizzard, the minimum requirements won't be that steep. *NM*

For $200 you could upgrade to 4GB ram and a 4850, just to throw that option out there *NM*

The answer is always yes, but I agree that you could probably do a modular upgrade for now. *NM*
