So I've ran a couple of quarrels (NPC v. NPC) with various classes against a vampire or multiple vampires, or vampire spawns. It's such an unwieldy template to a character.
They seem so overpowering, vampires. Their ECL is like +6, and they have wicked feats and abilities.
My question, though, is inflicting negative levels with the slam attack. How does that work? Is it temporary or permanent? Does it diminish your Fort/Will/Ref saves, HD, etc?
I've tried to dig through the DMG, but that's just as unruly.
Grazie.

That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find
a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any.
You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking,
somebody'll sneak up and write "F*ck you" right under your nose.
