I try to glean a better understanding of the competitive mind whenever I can, since you never know when I might have to work on a competitive game, and it's best to make any game both competitive AND casual, if it will support it. Melee hit that sweet-spot perfectly, and until now I did not understand why Brawl did not, because as I far as I could see it was nearly identical.

Melee was easy to learn and difficult to master; you're saying that Brawl is easy to learn and easy to master, and skill levels plateau, instead of climb higher. And I can see why that would turn you off.
