As I understand it, and I could be wrong... I think they try to make you advance and push forward. If you stay in one spot, the enemies replenish, if you move forward they stop replenishing at the spot you've advanced to. That's the way it seemed to me.


The problem is that modern military doctrine is basically to eliminate the enemy in an area, then advance, clear the next area, move on, etc. Whilst in CoD4 you can't do that at all. If you try that, you end up standing still. To advance, you often have to run into the hail of enemy gunfire and right into their midst to trigger the next part of the level, which is bonkers.
