1) Join the Thieves Guild early and do enough of the quests to where you can sell stolen goods. This will give you a way to increase your money at any time.
2) Loot EVERYTHING with value (and always food and ingredients), and organize the looting. When in dungeons, I usually will pick up everything and place it in a box as close to the entrance as possible. That way you can Fast Travel back and forth to sell things as quickly as possible.
3) Buy a house - use it as a base of operations. I tend to organize things I don't want to sell. Special wepaons/armor/jewels and I keep them in the house in different areas (I do the same thing on Fallout)
4) Do not ignore your magic and minor skills. You pretty much have to join the Mages Guild to do all the cool magic things, but it is very easy to forget your minor magic skills. Because you should....
5) Pay attention to skill increases. Each stat has 3 related skills. You can maximize your stat increases by focusing on certain major and minor skills during a leveling period. When you go up a level, you can increase each stat by a factor of 1-5, depending on how many skill increases you had. For each multiplier (aside from 1) you need twice as many increases in related skills.
6) I would suggest using repair hammers every chance you get. Things break and are useless, so keep them repaired. Eventually, you will be able to make it stronger than it should be.
7)An easy way to increase the Sneak skill is to go a town, find a gate guard, move off a little ways, sneak and walk against/towards the wall so that you are moving (as seen in 3rd person) but not actually going anywhere. Do it at night to avoid more observers.
Use Alchemy. Mix ingredients. Potions are UBER useful in the game, especially poisons. And ALWAYS keep healing and magic potions stocked.
9)Stray off the beaten path. It is a great way to find stuff and get new ingredients.
I love this game and pretty much know everything about it, so if you need help, don't hesitate to ask.

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is the biggest one I use, plus hi-res textures & a few smaller tweaks. *NM*
