I own twice as many PS2 games as 360 games, for whatever that's worth. I don't really think I'm biased. I do love to play devil's advocate, though. heh.
Nah. As Fox and Ravens pointed out, this shouldn't be a bandwidth issue at all. If you have an internet connection of any sort, you should have no trouble authenticating. This is especially true since, if they're smart, MS will do the authentication in the background during downtime.
If you do this very often, then it sounds like you have a legitimate reason for not wanting the Xbox. I'm totally fine with that. I just don't think that's common is all. I think most people who complain about the online requirement are vastly overestimating the actual impact that it would have on them.
Well, they've already announced that they ARE going to put up with that, so you don't have much of a leg to stand on. You're right, though, Red Box et al. may go the way of the dodo. Microsoft claims that they're exploring possibilities, so we'll have to see what they come up with. I still say it's too early to call.
Firstly, that's why I said "if you want it." You might not want the Kinect, so the PS4 is a great value for you, and it's nice that they let you avoid buying the camera. It's not a better value for EVERYONE though, because Microsoft has proved that an awful lot of consumers want a Kinect. From rough numbers I found on wikipedia, it looks like roughly a full third of 360 owners have a Kinect. So, yeah. For many people the One will be an equal or better value. The PS4 is not universally "cheaper."
Oh, and one more thing about being an old school gamer and stuff: I'm basically with you. I have zero interest in motion controlled games. However: I'm still very interested in the Kinect. Firstly because I think the utility features are awesome. Automatically signing the correct player into their accounts, associating the right controllers (and split screen) to players according to where they sit. . .that kind of thing is brilliant, and, in my opinion, underrated. But there's another reason to like it, too. If you have a minute, scan through the article I've linked below. It might give you a new perspective on the level of immersion that the Kinect might offer.
