It requires an absurd amount of grinding, and the lack of phoenix downs means that any time one of your characters die you pretty much have to give up and go back to town, unless you have a high enough level White Mage. And said White Mage isn't the one who died. I remember there's a cripted encounter in front of one of the chests (that contains something entirely worthless, no less!) in the Ice Cave where you get ambushed by a number of Mages who cast save-or-die (mostly die) spells at you. I had to restart the entire dungeon so many times before I realised the chest was not worth getting and just skipped it.
But on the other hand it's nice to have a game that actually forces you to use your healing items. With D&D style spell memorisation and the expense of such items, you really start to feel the pressure when you're a good way into the dungeon. No save spots, no healing spots, the entire dungeon is just sapping at your resources so you're weak by the time you reach the boss. It's pretty cool.

The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.

Psychonauts was worth it. The art direction helped it to age pretty gracefully, too. *NM*

Who do you have in your party? As FT says, Jaheira can resurrect, and fairly early on too.

There's an xkcd for most situations geeks are likely to encounter in their lives, honestly.

I suck at playing evil, too, but you can have Viconia in a neutral party.

That's another case of the original game becoming almost unplayable after the expansion.
