Basically, instead of a talent tree, you occasionally make a choice between two mutually exclusive abilities/upgrades. Similar to what WoW has done. And you no longer invest core stats like strength, etc - that's just built into the class.
It's less flexible than before, but the flip side of that is that you're not getting nearly as much rope to hang yourself with.
