BioWare apparently calculated the cost of remaking BG2 in the DRAGON AGE engine and apparently it would be so time-consuming and expensive it would put the near-ruinous proposed costs of remaking FF7 to shame. Apparently it's not even remotely feasible. BG2 in particular is too varied with almost each location being completely unique in art style and assets. Remaking them all in 3D would be an astronomical amount of work.
