He compares Origin to Steam through the entire article. Every suggestion he's made is something steam already does. There's nothing really original that he's saying or any new suggestion for them. ...but since this article brought up points comparing steam and origin, I'll do likewise.
Also, let's remember Origin just launched. It'll have its bugs and iffy support. They're in their infant years. Steam has worked it's way up and didn't start offering free games for a while and it started with Portal, iirc. That game was developed and published by Valve, no one else. It's easier to put out your very own game without ties for free. It's more difficult to put out a game that you might have published but didn't develop like ME1 and 2.
Steam also have pretty questionable support from what I've heard. It's just not publicized as much. People just have a lot of blind hate for Origin and the minute something goes wrong, they're up in arms but they're always willing to give valve a second chance. It doesn't make sense when Steam is the one who should (and is believed to be) doing it all right by now.
That said, I do prefer Steam to Origin. But that's because they've had years and years to build a library and get some practices right. They didn't start off amazing but ended up there. I have no doubt that Origin will become a large and worthy competitor pretty soon.
