I'm not really sure why, but that's how my gaming mind works with TES titles. Then again, I don't use mods that do cheap things, so it could be why. I tend to prefer the eventual overhaul mods over ones that just make things easier. My best friend had no qualms with modifying his inventory capacity in Oblivion, but it just felt cheap to me -- I couldn't do it.
Also, I think there's a masochistic part of me that likes having to decide what to loot and what to leave behind. Last night, for instance, my quests involved raiding two ships, then following a double-crosser to his hideout cave. By the time I reached the end of the cave, I was having to dump my excess loot. So, goodbye Fur and Studded Armor... Anything that weighed too much for its value got tossed. The 19 sets of Leather Armor sold fairly well, as far as efficiency went... Even with my +30 weight Boots of Hauling, I still had to use one of my Strength potions to get back to town.

The sword might be grateful to the forge fire, but never fond of it.

I'm so sad that spell damage doesn't scale in Skyrim

This is your answer, as far as I can tell. Dragonbone is on top of the Light Armor branch. *NM*

True, there are those perks. But they apply to all fire spells, or all dual-cast spells, etc

Can you enchant Light Armor to make it as effective as no-armor mage robes? *NM*

I can usually get three or four fireballs off

Fireball splash damage doesn't hurt you. Walk up to a wall and blast it; no damage. *NM*

True enough. Can't you tell them to hold their ground, though? I've never used one so I dunno. *NM*

I wish the fireball explosions did knockback, ie sent enemies flying, that would be so much cooler *NM*

I think companions are a clever ruse by Bethesda

? You guys are crazy. Just get a companion, and forget about 'em. They catch up.

Lydia has been parked in my house ever since I got her. I prefer going solo in both NV and Skyrim. *NM*

Why not just use the console to add carrying capacity to yourself?

It's compensating for game design that doesn't agree with you. Not cheating, as far as I'm concerned *NM*
