I'm enjoying TES lore much more this time around. I don't think much time lapsed between Morrowind and Oblivion. That, and nobody in Cyrodill seemed to care one whiff about what went down in Vvardenfell with the Nerevarine. In Skyrim, though, the "Oblivion Crisis" ended an age. Even better, we had a complete war happen off screen that involved the Thalmor sacking the Imperial City, then getting ousted. Apparently the Imperials agreed to terms nearly the same as the Thalmor had wanted in the first place, but Hammerfell fought them until they withdrew. (which made HF pissed at the Empire for giving in)
I just wish Bethesda would have someone edit their books, though. They're rife with misspellings. Here's a link to read them on your mobile device:
