If you want to play DS games on your 3DS the resolution and screen quality varies with each game played.
The 3 DS games that I've played on my 3DS all looked like they did on the DS to me. However, I've heard that some DS games just don't display well on the 3DS.
I traded my DS in back in March to get the 3DS. I still haven't played a 3DS game yet, but I've used my 3DS to beat a few games such as Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, and Miles Edgeworth.
The next couple months should be great for 3DS games. I'm stoked about the new Mario game and Mario Kart.
