It's not insane, but I'm the kind of person who would want to play with a variety of armies

The only other experience I can really equate it to is Magic, where I might have a favorite deck, but there's going to be a couple of others that I like using, too (Ninja deck is one of the most entertaining things, ever).
Plus the whole painting thing, not having people to play with thing, etc. What I'd like is to just go to a place where they have pre-painted models of every single thing, ever. Plunk down a bit of money to rent the pieces I want for a few hours as I play. Then leave.
I don't really care about the painting part, I just liked the "deckbuilding" (armybuilding?), killing stuff with artillery, and then seeing the gnashing of my opponent's teeth and the lamentations of his women.

I amuse myself.
Any tabletop gamers present?

That's better than having a big wet pile in your drawers somewhere. *NM*

Ever since we got the Dwarven Forge boxes, it's mostly power-gaming to be honest

$200 is chump change for entertainment hobbies.
