I have a lot of recs, that I will list for you in a few hours when I'm at work I don't have time to look them up right now though. But I have LOTS Check back!
Some good mods, in no particular order, that I have enjoyed:
A Dance of Rogues (VERY good game in two parts, does incorporate some NSFW material that is about 80% avoidable)
HeX Coda (very well respected, I enjoyed it and was disappointed the sequel was only half-finished for us )
Shadowlords/Dreamcatcher/Demon series (trilogy of series)
The Aielund Saga (I cannot say enough good things about this one.)
Honor Among Thieves (great rogue mechanics in this one)
Prophet series (by Baldecaran)
Twilight/Midnight/Dawn (great paladin series!!! srsly!)
Vampire-Heaven Defied (you get to play as a vampire WOO)
Aribeth's Redemption (good continuation of the OOC)
The Wyvern Crown Premium Module is very fun!
Almraiven/Shadowwood (incomplete story, but the two installments are an interesting change with some fun mechanics!)
The Gods Themselves/War for Cania (fun evil continuation of HotU)
Arandie (a nice little diversionary game, some NSFW content that is mostly avoidable if it bothers you)
Tale of a Mage by Hugie (If you like playing a caster you HAVE TO PLAY THIS ONE. Seriously. if you don't, I will be so ashamed of you.)
The Art of Death--back in black (fun assassination module)
Sands of Fate (very enjoyable continuation from HotU, great epic story)
Perchance to Dream (so-so game, but you get to play as Khelben Blackstaff Arunsun!!!!)
Tales of Arterra
Assassin: A Tale of Winter (shorter and starts a bit dull, but is fun once you're done with standard tasks!)
Sex and the Single Adventuress (TOTALLY just for fun your goal is basically to run around screwing people and gathering pieces of a magical sex outfit. but the dialogue is hysterically satirical sometimes!)
Runes of Blood (fun upgrade mechanics with the Runes, good story)
A Hunt through the Dark Series (fun drow story)
Revenant (interesting twist! You're playing as a recently-murdered undead character, seeking vengeance for your death!)
The Song Divine (also in German, bard story and uses the class well!)
Bloodright: The Blood Royal (encorporates some politics, interesting story)
Blackguard I-III (straightforward brutal storyline, but fun if you're in the mood to just run around massacring innocents!)
Stormy Night/Narcropolis/Wake (AMAZING Surreal/horror modules...incredibly well done!!)
Desert Rose (fun story set in a more arabic setting)
Saleron's Gambit (another incredibly fun story that I truly enjoyed every time I played it)
Assassin: Hand of the Zshi (another interesting assassin game)
God I picked out so many here, but there were even more than I enjoyed playing through at least once. I really recommend that you keep looking through yourself for what YOU enjoy! Pick through searches, and the Hall of Fame is always a good place to start! Also, you'll notice some of the above modules have repeat authors (eg. Hugie, Baldercan) and if you like them, look into their other modules!
As you can see, I've played a lot of NWN content...it's my favorite thing about the game and why I will always support it, despite the game's flaws. In fact, writing out this list has made me want to reinstall and play again!! XD
Man...now that I have finally finished, I feel like that "modules that are awesome on NWN" could be its own thread XD

Bethesda actually considered the license. They chose to make Skyrim instead. *NM*

I will say, the books are almost universally read amongst game designers, and it's a hot license.
