Doesn't mean the game doesn't have flaws. It does. But the things that the game does do well fit together into a coherent package that make it a blast to play. Also it's gorgeous on the PC if you have a DX11 AMD card.
The story and voice acting are a bit heavy-handed but I hear that that's been a feature of all Deus Ex games so I don't know if that's a negative or not. For me, it didn't break my suspension of disbelief so that's fine. Atmosphere-wise, the game has some absolutely beautiful regions to explore, especially the second hub city that you go to. Supposedly, there were plans to have even more hubs in the game and I hope they show up sometime in the future as DLC or expansion. I can't restate often enough how wonderful it is to have a game that actually takes advantage of DX11.
And yes, the game does hinder you if you play aggressively. Heavy XP bonuses are given if you can cross a level without detection. Again, I am not the shoot stuff up type of player so it didn't annoy me. However, one thing that did annoy me though was the boss battles. Specifically when you're playing a stealth non-combat build and you're rudely interrupted by one and you can't progress into the game. But that's all nitpicking though. It's GOTY so far for me. I think I liked it even more than the Witcher 2.

That does seem to be true, although I never even tried to play it as a shooter. It's not one. *NM*
