D&D Online Free to Play - too good to be true?

What's the deal on this? It does sound too good to be true, so what's the catch? Has/does anyone play it?
EDIT: I'm looking at it a little more closely, and it looks like you have to pay for "premium" access, though what that means is questionable. My question remains though - how much can you do in the game without paying and is it worth it?

Why would I want to play D&D anywhere but with friends around a table anyway? *NM*

Because you don't always HAVE friends and...well, I suppose you generally have a table available.
