Halo 3: ODST (Review) MightyYT Send a noteboard - 22/09/2009 10:30:13 PM
This game is not worth 60 dollars.

It tried to have more 'atmosphere' and draw you into the game more with different game mechanics. You don't jump as high. Sheilds and Health don't regenerate. It is a bit more open world where you have to run around to different parts of the map, picking up things, unlocking others. It reminds me of some levels on Doom where you have to open a blue door, but to do that, you have to back track all across the map for a blue key. But the campaign is VERY short. My buddy and I went through it separately and finished in 3 hours....each. The story was only mildly entertaining. You are part of a squad and got separated, so you wander around the city looking for clues to what happens to them. As you find some people, you play a little flahsback scenario showing what they went through.

Bungie finally listened to fans and brought back the Halo 1 pistol. The pistol with 2x zoom. There are a couple of new weapons, and a new enemy type.

You can do the campaign coop or solo. And Firefight is Halo's answer to Horde Mode on Gears of War 2 and Nazi Zombies on COD: World at War. The 'big gimmick' is that random skulls get activated with each wave. Still the same boring crap though.

And what pisses me off more than anything else is Microsoft's blatant attempt to screw Halo 3 fans in the ass in the name the almighty dollar. Bungie knew it wasn't worth full new game price. They wanted to release it at $40 (and I think that is 10 dollars to high) but Microsoft said they didn't need the KY.
I am talking about the multiplayer maps, of course. Bungie has achievements and playlists for Halo 3 that REQUIRE you to buy ODST in order to play them. ODST comes with a Halo 3 Multiplayer Mythic Disc that comes with every map pack released so far, and the Mythic Map Pack Part 2. There are NO plans to release Part 2 in any way except on that stupid disc, according to Bungie. (and this pisses me off more than anything else.) So you can't enjoy the full multiplayer experience.

The only way this game is worth $60 is if you didn't get any of the map packs previously. As some of the map packs are free and others still cost money, it is only barely worth it then.

So to re-itereate

-Short Campagin
-New Multiplayer Mode that the same as Gears and COD's new modes
-Only way to get the new maps for Halo 3 Multiplayer
Castle: This is so weird. I dressed up as him for Halloween.

Beckett: Me too.

The story was half the reason to play Halo in the first place. - 23/09/2009 09:32:02 PM 371 Views
