At most, the only major complaint I've heard, and could be valid, is that the game can feel repetitive. Personally, I've been taking my time with this game, aiming to get five star ratings for each crime and occasionally stopping off to do street crimes (can also get repetitive) which can help break up the crime scene to crime scene game play. My arguement to this is that this is a game unto itself. There really hasn't been anything like it (Heavy Rain is about all that comes to mind). So yes, with it being a very distinct game, it can feel repetive, but the same can be said about a lot of games. Does a shooter consist of more than a main character, a gun, some vague semblance of story, and a lot of people dying? Typically no, but most wouldn't consider that to be repetetive. Don't buy this game thinking you're gonna run n' gun or if you're wanting something action packed. This isn't that game, but it's one of the most immersive games I've played in a while.

Another minor complaint I've heard is that the story isn't overly affected by the choices you make. While this is true, the choices you make obviously affect the case you're on rather than the overall story. I think one reason behind this is that the game isn't a PC/PS3 exclusive. A lot more info can fit on blu-ray, rather than a dvd (this is a three disc game for you 360 owners). This game is trying to tell a concise and specific story, and doing so, manages to be around 20 hours of game play. So no, there aren't a lot of paths of story telling like there are in Heavy Rain, but the story they tell is good, so far, and I'm looking forward to see how it pans out.

Ultimately, I love Noir fiction and this is living up to that genre quite well. The atmosphere this game creates is flawless (music, acting, etc.). I've thoroughly enjoyed each crime (lots of brutalized women in 1940's LA!). Just last night I managed to interrogate everyone correctly, questioned every suspect perfectly and even got into a brawl without my main character losing his hat. The end result was high praise and a five star rating, which was a very rewarding feeling, as I had been working on that case alone for at least an hour. Also, the technology introduced with facial expression has been amazing. I'm really looking forward to what this technology has in store for future games. I feel as though we're one step closer to controlling actual people in our video games. I'm very happy with my purchase and look forward to DLC once I've exhausted the main game.

Not unless I pick up a bargain-priced console, since R* decided to snub PCs. *NM* - 17/05/2011 04:17:27 PM 238 Views

I have to wonder if Valve's delay for HL2:Ep3 is related to utilizing this facial expression tech. - 18/05/2011 06:07:48 PM 510 Views
