It's the premier digital platform for PC games, though GOG's offers more "stuff" with their version.

Being required to use it with Valve games in '04 had me stubborn, but Steam won me over a few years ago. I'm even to the point where I'll launch non-Steam games through Steam... just to have the in-game overlay for chat, etc. The sales are killer if you wait for them, too. It's also been a tremendous boon for indie PC titles, so I appreciate that. It may be owned by a game developer, which some would use to say they're wary of its objectivity, but it's been better for the PC industry than anything Microsoft (supposed PC gaming proponent) has done.
GOG.com has a great deal on TW2, too, so I don't mean to imply that Steam is the best way to get the game. Honestly, I don't care much about the "extra" extras that GOG's version includes over the Steam one. GOG's is "DRM Free," but already running Steam most of the time means that its version isn't unnecessarily intrusive either.
Special edition crap just collects dust, so excuse my ambivalence toward game extras. Soundtracks and art are the only things I'll really bother checking out.

Disappointed with Dragon Age 2? Looking for an expansive AAA PC fantasy RPG? Come one, come all!

The Witcher is all right. The story is fun, but the gameplay could use some work.

I don't have a problem with the DRM-ness of it on its own

It's been on my radar, but I'm not sure if I'll pre-order. Might not get around to playing asap. *NM*
