i played my very first dragon quest (i last year and was bowled over by how brilliant it was. i bloody loved it. i'm a big fan of rpgs and dragon quest was everything an rpg should be on a an iddy-biddy screen. it's games like dragon quest that show that amazing graphics and next generation gameplay isn't needed all i want is a solid plot, quick loading times and well thought out gameplay. i even quite enjoyed the grinding, there's no greater feeling of achievement among all the genres of games than levelling up. however after easy 200 plus hours i did get bored, i had done the main boss and all there really was left was doing those dungeon bosses and a couple of extra bonus stuff, after the main plot i wasn't that taken with putting more hours into it, i just felt like it was a slight waste of time.
so. i was looking on amazon and i find that there are other dragon quest games on there and what i would like to know is which (if any) you would recommend? as i've said they don't have to look spectacular but gameplay and a traditional rpg theme is necessary, basically do you think that if i got bored of dq ix, the others have anything else to offer?
also what games are you looking forward to being released? i have my eye on l.a noire and skyrim for the xbox and zelda the skyward sword for the wii.

You'd probably like the IV - VI remakes, but most of my experience was in the "Warrior" days, too.

Yeah, you're right. Hadn't thought about that when singling out The Witcher.
