It's not like I said they broke the game for me

Just that it irritated me. It's unnecessary. Population dynamics RARELY bother me. That's why it was so notable that they bothered me this time. Not to mention it's just bloody IRRITATING, not "fun", to be hit with wave after wave of thugs. I don't care much about combat. I'm in it for the story so when they waste my time with meaningless FLUFF combat, it's irritating.
There were many little problems with this game, along these lines. Illogical logistics, shamelessly repetitive dungeon maps, less "RPG" than "fetch-carry-kill-while-romancing". There were big problems, imo, too. The game had a lot of potential to involve the player in the politics of the city, but they more just had the PC take sides, which made people cranky or not. Politics? What was our "politics"? We declared a side but it didn't change anything. We couldn't shift the opinion of the people into ousting the knight commander on their own, we couldn't drive the knight commander into a mindless rage that began slaughtering every being in sight. The "politcking" in this game is blunt, clumsy and boring. The relationships are ham-handed and more about "appeasement" than actual relationship/character development. The story line is forked, but always converges again and is shallow and straight without many twists or turns. Pretty much the ONLY thing that shocked me was the blowing of the Chantry, but even then, it wasn't THAT shocking.
If it sounds like I have high standards, it's because I do. IMO, if amateurs can use the NWN toolset to make deep complex story lines, I don't expect any less out of professionals. Dance of the freakin' Rogues (that has entire paragraphs of dialogue dedicated to PORN) has a deeper storyline with more fun twists than this game.
For that matter, I don't think that complaining about the lack of depth (which I originally mentioned in my response title) is "petty". When you advertise a game as being about a character's rise to power in a city, one hopes for a bit of political maneuvering. There isn't any. There's side taking and killing people.
It's not that it's not PRETTY enough, or that they were lazy with their dungeons. Those are just little things on the list of "huge disappointments".
I'm sorry if I'm disappointed in a game that you are enjoying so much. I don't hate this game. But good money was spent on this game and I'm disappointed in it. I don't know WHY, but I keep expecting more out of the RPG industry. MY BAD.

Having Anders get pissed at you when you won't sleep with him is stupid.

They're neglecting the gamer demographic in DA2. Sexuality has nothing to do with it.

yah they were pretty empty. The only reason I'm not irritated is that at least they're completed.

Don't worry; you'll be able to get it as overpriced DLC installments! *NM*

They could have done a LOT more with all the in-city strife.

I don't feel bad paying for it, solely cause I never paid for DA1 *NM*

As far as excuses for developer laziness go, that's a pretty poor one.

Yah this is what I was talking about. The repeat of tunnel systems in totally unrelated areas. *NM*

Point of fact: in DA: O you're fighting the Fifth Blight, not the First.

I think the fact that most NPC possibilities go either way is kind of weird.
