I've been playing for a few days now on PS-3.
The Good: great graphics, fast-paced action, good instants (alerts) atm, not laggy at all. A generally fun game, with great comic-book-like cut-scenes explaining hero/villain histories.
The Bad: horrid, horrid voice-chat system, and by horrid I mean broken and dysfunctional. Incredibly slow menu-system which, at the wrong times, can cost you your life; at the best times, is simply annoying with it's slowness. Type-chat system not very user friendly (purchase of a USB/BT keyboard a near must). Level-30 cap?!? Not sure how this will play out, as I'm only lvl 20, but it seems low. A number of game-mechanics become available only at lvl-30 however, so maybe it's not so bad. And of course, this is something which will likely be increased with time.
I'm enjoying the game so far. As with most MMO's, you have to do your research to learn pretty much anything about the game....it will not be in the manual. Steep learning curve for sure. It's great fun with friends, which would only be increased with a properly working voice-chat system. The PC players have no worries (3rd party systems), but us console players are fubar right now. I assume this is a priority for the dev's, but who knows. For me, and for my friends, if this is not fixed by 2-months in (1st month free, $15/month after) we likely bail on the game. They have a unique MMO on their hands, and with proper care this could be great fun and long-term enjoyment.
There are straight PvE servers, but those are for losers
We play on PvP server, and while the occassional ganking takes place (everyone from lvl-1 to lvl-30 can be encountered), it's not that big an issue and shouldn't deter someone from playing. Plus, killing other peeps is great!
And the way they have set up the skill system, it's not as great a range as you think. For example, at lvl 12 I killed a lvl 18 no problem (he didn't seem very skilled at PvP). At lvl 18, I was able to fend-off two lvl 21+'s, though I had no chance to really hurt either....they just couldn't kill me (I'm a healer). Of course, I've been wiped by lvl-30's multiple times, but one time myself and a friend nearly took out a lvl 30 when we were both 15, and that was very exciting while it happened.
If you like MMO's and have a PS-3, give it a go for at least the 1-free month. You'll get your $60 out of it even if you go no further. If however you like it, well then it's on!
