Have they upped the drop rates for green+ items and the spawn rate of elite mobs?
I can't say for sure about green items, but I don't think it's changed. Elite monsters, though, have been added as "quest-line bosses" since zones have had their quests revolve around achieving a certain resolution.
Cause I've found a ton of uncommon drops including a pair of recipes I found in Northern Barrens that somehow sell on the auction house for 10+ gold even though I was getting them at a rate of 1 per hour. And I've not hit Ashenvale yet and I've already encountered a good 6-8 elites, I think I'd only met one by that level last time I played.
Regarding recipes, plans, patterns, etc - prices on the auction house are determined by your local server's economy. Many world-drop boe plans sell for a hefty chunk of change because most people power-level their professions and then buy stuff off the auction house later. In short, it's a good way for you to make a lot of gold at low level.
Seriously, I've already got like 50 gold at level 21. That can't be right.
Blame mud-flation, power-leveled professions, auction house manipulators, and gold farmers.
