Sometimes you need to achieve an certain framerate or the game is unplayable at that settings you want to play. As Macharius found out with the 5670, the FPS per dollar is only useful for comparing similar cards, thus if I were to divide the 5 cards up into caterogires it would be this

HD5670

HD5750 vs GTS450 vs HD5770

GTX460 (which is in another level than the previous cards).

The HD5770 runs WoW-Cataclysm on Ultra at 50+ fps even in Northrend (no promises on Dalaran). I'm not sure just how high, since I sent the fps cap at 50 to prevent overheating the card. The HD5670 would run it, but at much lower fps even after I got the driver issue fixed.

Also, Fallout 3 would crash every time with the HD5670 on Ultra - but the HD5770 runs it on Ultra just fine (though I'll probably downgrade the settings a step to get better fps). I haven't tried SC2 on Ultra with the HD5770 yet, but I'm going to assume it plays very well since the HD5670 ran it just fine (though again, the fps were a little lower than what would be ideal to me).

I should also probably try Dragon Age out with the HD5770.

In the end, I'm glad I chose not to settle for the HD5670 (though I was tempted!) and give myself some leeway for being able to play games to be released in the future on my desired settings. As it is right now, I expect to be able to use the HD5770 for at least the next three years and possibly up to five.

If it makes it to five, I'll be due for an entire system build. The prospect of this being my last video card for this system is actually quite attractive to me.
