I've no problem deferring to someone more familiar w/ recent cards.

My satisfaction with the 8800GT has made me lazy in keeping up with card comparisons. I'm also skewed thanks to Apple's insistence on calling my iMac's card a 5670. It performs noticeably slower than my PC's 8800GT, with other system specs being close-ish. (PC's Wolfdale vs iMac's i3, 4GB of 1066 vs 1333, 7200rpm drives) The comparison site I looked up showed that the 5670 has newer tech and a few nice things over the 8800GT, but definitely lacks its raw horsepower. Maybe the 9800GT isn't as close to the 8800 as I'm assuming either.
My best advice is to not worry about spending *a little* more than you want in order to get a card you'll *love*. It would almost be better if he was gaming at 1920, IMO. I tend to not bother with AA at that res, while I feel it's more desirable at 1680.

The sword might be grateful to the forge fire, but never fond of it.

That's the card in my new iMac. Well, according to Apple, at least...

A 9800GT is roughly equivalent to a 5670. *NM*

Your card isn't an ati hd5670, it is about 75% as fast as an 8800gt

ATI Mobility HD5730 is almost the same as the desktop ATI HD5670 but it is closer to ATI HD5570

One thing you didn't mention is what resolution you're trying to run at.

Glad to hear it's working. That kind of performance is much more what I'd expect from a 5670. *NM*

That didn't stop me from getting the 5770 so that I would have a "buffer zone" of peformance gains

The HD5670 is meant to be a casual gamer card

Nice to know that someone selling these actually knows what they're talking about.
