Core2 Duo 2.6GHz
Asus P5Q SE PLUS
4GB (2x2) G.Skill DDR2-1333
Win7/64 Home Premium
Monitor running 1680x1050
Cataclysm runs on Ultra at about 20-some fps on average, as long as I don't try to turn the camera. I think the main issue is rendering terrain textures, which is a problem in open areas even on Good setting (two below Ultra). Flying over Zul Drak was enough to turn the game into a slideshow.
My idea for this was just to keep an eye on the temperature meter. Heck, the built-in utility lets me control processor speed, memory speed, and the card's fan speed. I could just maximize all of it and see what happens, I suppose, and as long as it doesn't get too hot I could leave it as-is.
Doubling up on the stream processors is very tempting... but spending the extra $60 isn't as much.

I would recommend against trying to overclock the card if you don't know what you're doing, and can't easily afford a replacement.

If I were you, I'd update your drivers, and see what you think. If you're not happy with the results, or if you're determined to game at 1920, return your card, and buy a 5770. This should set you back about $150, and, in my opinion, is probably the best bang-for-your-buck card out there in the 1920 arena.
