In general, it is a good idea to play 60 cards, which is the minimum according to the rules. The reason for this is that you will typically have a few cards which actually do the winning for you, and if you cut down on other cards, you will be more likely to draw them.
I think you let me play with 120 at one point.
I think I probably told you, but you couldn't find anything to cut. At least that's what I did when I started playing. Everyone in my group where playing 90-card blue-white permission decks with hardly any creatures. You couldn't really play any important spells unless you had two or three counterspells in hand to back it up. Hours of fun.
I bet you held back on telling me because deep down you wanted to win. But you hadn't counted on wellwisher! Hah!
