1. Do you play Good, Neutral or Evil?
I prefer it when the choices aren't labelled like that... I am unlikely to play the game if it is, but for nwn, I play different options before I am done with the game. it is meant to be played with a boring paladin acting type of character, though.

i know what you mean, but the overall arch of all decisions are one of those. for example the bard i'm playing on NWN now does deeds that he will be remembered for, only kills people he regards to be evil but always demands a reward (and then some if i get a successful persuade) if they can afford it, because he grew up on the mean streets. i would say that while he's a good character he's also quite selfish
2. Do base him/her on yourself/a character from a film or book/someone you made up/don't put that much thought into it?
For a computer rpg? I choose the way to play the character as most consistent with my style of playing.
I can't do the completely evil, because that is fucking stupid, and being nice to everyone is also boring. So for a table top game, I prefer to play the character which stands a bit to the side, and is slightly narcissistic.

i love the completely evil thing, though mostly i just do it along the lines of thinking that the character (being evil) wants to become as powerful as possible so will kill anything that's challenging (whether good or evil) or anything weak (if it's rich) anything else is beneath notice unless they get in his way
my first playthrough of a game is always whatever reflects myself best (which is mostly good, honest) then i play the extremes

I had to act out of character to keep the influence level decent enough so I wouldn't have to fight
