Neverwinter Nights

How many chapters are there?

In which one? The original? There were, I believe, 4 chapters+prologue in the original. Each expansion had 3 chapters

Are the best weapons simple, martial or exotic?

It depends on your class and how you play your character. That being said, the more common a weapon is, the more powerful weapons of that type can be found in the game (with some exception made for some of the exotics). If you're a fighter, your probably better off sticking with some type of sword. If you're a priest, probably better off sticking with a mace, and so on and so forth. The phrase "X weapon is best" has no bearing between classes and game plays.

Who's the best henchman?

Again, it depends what YOU are. I've found the most use out of Tomi and Linu. Shandra's pretty useless. The monk and Dalan are both useful if that suits your party better.

I'm playing as a bard, if i level up as dragon disciple can i go back and level up as bard? what's the exp cap, what level can i realistically get to? which is the best prestige class to go for?

Yes you can. The level cap for the original game was 20, then 30 and then 40 after hordes of the underdark. you usually end up near whichever at the end of the respective game, depending on how much "extra" you do. Prestige class depends on how you play, although I've found Harper Scout to be 100% useless.

is there every anything truly decent (like one off decent not +1s etc) in locked chests?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by decent. if you mean more than +1 weapon, yes, it can be found although most of those chests are guarded by "bosses". Most other powerful items are on persons. You will find more weaker items in total, though, but that's how it should be. Remember, as PCs not part of the world in real life, we're a bit spoiled. Even in a scenario like Faerun, powerful magic is rare and hard to come by.

You'll find that the real joy in NWN is the user created modules, by the way. At this point, there are MANY very good quality modules out there for many types of players. A good place to start is the Hall of Fame on the Vault
Still Empress of the Poofy Purple Pillow Pile Palace!!
