I mean, yes, what you say makes some sense, but I'd far, far rather have something personal at stake. I find, say, having your daughter's life, or your wife's life, or, hell, your dog's life hanging in the balance far more compelling than having the entirety of existence up for grabs. Yes, technically, if the universe goes, your dog, wife, and daughter do too. But I cannot relate to or empathize with that kind of struggle at all. That and it's so ridiculously overblown and overdone that I've been desensitized to it.

I'll take a struggle save your family over a struggle to save the universe any day.
