it seemed as if it hooked up online every time I opened Portal (the game I was playing).
There's an option in Steam called 'play in offline mode'. When you click that, it goes into offline mode and will not try to access the Internet during play. It also remembers to stay offline if you switch off the computer and come back to it later.
Most console gamers still prefer discs over downloads

For consoles, I definitely prefer discs. I can take it to a friend's house, not fill up my harddrive
