Not everyone is sufficiently willing or knowledgeable to break laws and pirate video games. DRM is not excessively effective, but it does deter some people, and it allows companies to go after pirates via the DMCA.
DRM isn't really about preventing piracy (real pirates will break DRM in a matter of days if not hours), but about circumventing the First-Sale Doctrine and getting a cut of the used-game market. Take Dragon Age, for example. If you buy the retail copy for $50, you get a promotional code for DLC "for free". On the used game market, you buy Dragon Age for $20 or $30, but to get that same extra content you have to pay an additional $15 for the DLC (which, by the way, won't work if you don't have a permanent online connection to EA as I discovered to my immense displeasure).

Starcraft II won't have crazy DRM.

Could be worse. I'm still miffed about its release structure, though. I feel milked.

I'm pretty anti-DRM, but one-time connection seems reasonable enough.

Go start your own game company? Really? That's the only response?

I have to agree... the more restrictions and hassles they put on playing purchased games

The majority of people, actually.

That's just a terrible argument. If they have no Internet, they can't illegally download games.
