Arstechnica had a good preview of SC2's single player a while back, if you want to <a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/04/starcraft-2.ars">check it out</a>. As far as social gaming, though, there's no reason you have to play the beta like that. Just play against a human like you would the computer AI, and ignore the chat.

The released game will have single player, but I don't think the beta does.
