I have nothing to do with PETA. When I said grass fed cattle is sustainable, I did not mean to meet the demands of the meat consumption of the world right now. I meant the actual process itself is sustainable. Polyculture works wonders. Please don't patronize me, Lorraine, I know animals produce hormones. They don't however produce the excess put into the diet to help them along. Even regardless if the USDA approves the actions taken by industrial corporations right now, they've approved all sorts of harmful/potentially detrimental actions in the past. Also, even if the animals are completely healthy, those horrendous concentrated production areas are contaminating the ground supplies just as well as the fertilizer runoffs from industrial farms.
As to the industrial organic farms using the same amount of petroleum, in some cases I agree with you. The air, truck, train, and tractor gas usage is the same if not more than the other method of production; however, the fertilizers contribute greatly to contamination. If you have any articles that discuses these new miracle fertilizers and pesticides not made from petroleum or other harmful products, I'd honestly love to read them. I would honestly like to not feel like industrial farming isn't an evil hegemony that is helping to further destroy the planet, but I really don't feel like that is going to change. Call me crazy, or liberal, or whatever you might call it, but I feel how I feel.
