I'm sitting here, in the only proper chair in my brand new appartment, which is only new to me since the building must be a couple of decades old. I've moved out of the 'rents two days ago.
Let me share wih you, in my brief experience the things you -and by you I mean I- would never wonder about while living with the 'rents.
* Hot water doesn't spring out of the earth -not usually anyways- & the thermostat doesn't magically get started. So you can go thank the gods you decided to move out in summer and taking a freezing cold shower won't kill ya. Then you can call dad and have him come take care of it. In my defence I'll say that I'm not completely an idiot, I did know about turning on the thermostat for hot water and all, it only needed more strength that I have. I was doing the right moves, just not pressing strong enough.
* Taking the "mattress that will fit in the car" as opposed to "the good mattress" even if you will only sleep in it for three nights is a stupid idea. The mattress that fits into a small car is the equivalent of sleeping in the floor while trying to convince yourself that this is exactly want you wanted. Thank god the bed will be delivered in two days.
So yeah, I've finally got around to moving out. I can't say I'm anything yet, not happy, not sad, not homesick, not anything... yet. I still have things in my parents house and I have to go back and forth all the time so it's not really like I'm living on my own just yet. But I can see great potential in this new phase of life.
So, how about you? What thing didn't you think about when you moved out?
